TechMeme invents new kind of advertising

Recently I have had lots of conversations with clients and potential clients about the idea that their content should be freed from their domain. What I mean is that with RSS feeds and other kinds of widgets readers should be able to consume your content without having to “be” on your domain.

For example, Earl Creps puts a video on Google Video to leverage their storage and bandwidth. Then he embeds their little HTML code snippet on  a blog post of his own

Now his content is living “off” his domain, but he still can use it. But more importantly, other people can publish the same content. There are lots of examples of this: RSS feeds, Amazon Associate links or Evenful.

TechMeme’s new advertising

Jeff Jarvis explains it very simply, “He takes feeds of the latest posts from sponsors’ blogs and puts that in an ad box on Techmeme. That’s their ad. It’s brilliantly simple: dynamic advertising controlled by the advertisers, who will make their ads — their content — relevant to the readers who see their feeds on Techmeme.”

This is a brilliant way to “advertise” on a blog that is in your channel. Everyone knows that the best add is content—imagine getting space on a well-trafficked site to highlight your content, events or photos.
